Workshops to focus on registration
The Department of Motor Vehicles will hold two public workshops to discuss changes in the way car owners will be able to register their cars.
The workshops allow the public to comment on the issue of allowing Nevada licensed vehicle dealers and financial institutions to act as agents of the DMV for the purpose of registering vehicles. The meeting will be held at the Community College of Southern Nevada, building D, room 221 on July 23 and Aug. 9 at 11 a.m.
Anyone who is not able to attend can submit their comments in writing to the DMV. All written statements must be received by Sept. 10.
Memorial walkway at Red Rock
The dedication of a memorial walkway will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Red Rock Visitor's Center. Call 363-1921 for more information.
Entries being taken for award
The Nevada Contractors Association is accepting applications for the "Contractors of the Year" awards. Free entry forms can be attained by calling 222-0320. The deadline is Oct. 1.
Recruitment seminars set
The Las Vegas and North Las Vegas fire departments will begin recruiting in the next couple of months. Three seminars will be offered to explain what it takes to become a firefighter at the following locations:
Wednesday: 6-8 p.m., Rainbow Library, 3150 N. Buffalo Drive
Aug. 18: 10 a.m.-noon, Las Vegas Fire Training Center, 633 N. Mojave Road
Sept. 8: noon-2 p.m. North Las Vegas Library, 2300 Civic Center Drive
Workshop planned at Black Mountain
A Landscape Photography workshop will be offered at 5 p.m. Monday at the Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road. Participation is $20 (ages 15 and up). To register or for more information, call 565-2880.
Event set for Whitney Ranch
A paint-your-own ceramics workshop will be 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Drive. Registration is $12 (ages 5-15) and includes all supplies. Call 450-5885.
Group taking applications
Mothers of preschool age children can sign-up for a "Mothers of Preschoolers Group" at CornerStone Christian Fellowship, 5825 W. Eldora. For times and dates, call 871-5050.
Attempt to top record planned
The American Culinary Foundation will try to break the record of dipping 10,537 strawberries in 41 minutes beginning 1 p.m. Tuesday at the MGM Grand hotel-casino. The strawberries will be sold for $10 per dozen to help raise funds for Candlelighter programs and services. Call 737-1919.
