Man fleeing police hit by car

A man fleeing a routine traffic stop on foot was struck by a vehicle Sunday night after he leaped a concrete divider on U.S. 95 and attempted to cross southbound traffic, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.

Trooper Alan Davidson said the man, whose age police estimated at 25, suffered a compound fracture on his arm. A medical helicopter transported him to University Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition this morning.

NHP pulled over the northbound vehicle about 7:30 p.m. near the Rancho Drive exit for a traffic violation.

The driver had several warrants and was arrested at the scene, Davidson said. Two passengers waited outside the vehicle while police conducted a search.

When police found a gun and GHB, commonly known as the date rape drug, in the bag of one of the passengers, the passenger ran across the northbound lanes and jumped to the southbound side of the freeway, where he was hit by an Oldsmobile, the NHP said.
