Halfway house suit to continue
Thursday, July 12, 2001 | 10:52 a.m.
A U.S. District Court judge Wednesday ruled that a lawsuit filed by 13 Southeast Las Vegas residents against the owner of three halfway houses near Flamingo and Sandhill roads will proceed.
Lorri Ahlm owns the halfway houses for recovering drug addicts and alcoholics. She had sought an injunction blocking the suit.
The neighbors, represented by Michael Bohn, in April filed suit in state court in an attempt to close the business. The suit came after more than a year of appealing to state and local officials to restrict the number and locations of halfway houses and group homes.
Ahlm's attorney, Dan Wulz, filed a motion in federal court requesting an injunction to dismiss the lawsuit pending against his client.
U.S. District Judge Kent Dawson allowed the suit to go forward in federal court.
A similar suit has been filed by the neighbors in state district court and a hearing is scheduled Aug. 27.
