Letter: It’s only neglect if you’re poor
Monday, July 9, 2001 | 8:55 a.m.
Do you have an unwanted baby? Are you white? Live in an expensive house with a good job? No problem, leave the baby in the car. But if you're a minority and poor, stand by for jail time.
People can be fined or worse for leaving pets in hot cars. I guess gross neglect of children is not important enough to warrant investigation by the proper departments, whether by the police or by child welfare services.
Come on people, speak out.
