Stepfather receives life sentence
A 28-year-old Las Vegas man was sentenced to life in prison Thursday for having sexual relations with his 11-year-old stepdaughter, who ended up pregnant.
The man will have to serve at least 10 years in prison before becoming eligible for parole. He pleaded guilty in June to sexual assault of a child under 14 and was sentenced by District Judge Joseph Bonaventure.
The child is now eight months pregnant.
LV man handed 3- to 10-year term
A Las Vegas man was sentenced Thursday to three to 10 years in prison for his part in a murder-for-hire.
Henry Pawlik pleaded guilty to solicitation to commit murder in 1998 in connection with the December 1997 slaying of Bruce Ray Fisher. As part of the plea agreement, he agreed to testify against his co-defendants and his sentencing was postponed indefinitely.
Both of his co-defendants pleaded guilty earlier this year, however.
Police believe Heath Iliescu had a business dispute with Fisher and hired Jason Paris to kill him in December 1997. Pawlik is believed to have introduced Paris to Iliescu.
Paris pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 10 to 25 years in March.
