LAKE MEAD: Anglers who have braved the triple digit temperatures have generally been rewarded by catching striped bass that are actively feeding on schools of threadfin shad. The better action for stripers appears to be the Boulder Basin with most boaters concentrating their efforts off Boulder Beach, the Hemenway Wall, Sand Island and Black Island.

On Saturday one boater managed to catch 18 stripers in less than two hours at Swallow Cove.

Fishing appears to have slowed for both shore anglers and boaters at Echo Bay. Fishing is somewhat better in the Muddy and Virgin rivers, but the warm weather has been keeping fishing pressure to a minimum.

Largemouth bass have taken to deep water and few have been caught during the past week. Channel catfish are in coves and are being caught at night.

LAKE MOHAVE: A few diehard anglers have been taking to the water early in the morning at Cottonwood Cove, otherwise there has been little fishing activity in that part of the lake. Boaters are still finding stripers in the one-pound size range in the narrows above Cottonwood.

Fishing was good for rainbow trout following last week's plant at Willow Beach. The next stocking is scheduled to take place on Friday.

WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA: There was surprisingly light fishing activity over the weekend, according to Dana Johnson, installation supervisor. The weather has been warm with daytime temperatures hitting the high 90s.

Rainbow trout fishing has taken a summer hiatus while largemouth bass are hitting around sunrise and sunset. Mosquitoes have been a major irritant for anglers who are on the water around sunset.
