Youths can benefit from chance at camp
Wednesday, July 4, 2001 | 1:19 a.m.
Many of the children who apply to the Sun Camp Fund are described as good kids who are helpful and conscientious.
There is the 12-year-old boy who is the oldest of three. "he has a lot of responsibility helping me with his brother and sister," his mother says. "This is probably the only chance he will ever have to go to camp."
There is the 10-year-old boy whose grades went from F's to A's who has been trying very hard to make his life better, according to his mother.
And a 9-year-old boy is described by his mother as a "great kid who gets good grades in school."
Their families say these kids are trying to stay on the right path, and they believe going to camp will help them stay on that route.
Sometimes simple things, such as toasting marshmallows and singing around the campfire and spending time around camp counselors who are positive role models are the memories that a child will carry with her through the rest of her life.
By joining contributors to the Las Vegas Sun Camp Fund you are making a difference in a child's life.
Some recent contributors:
Esther and Lawrence Ovian; Koval Family Trust; William and Darla Keeton; Nicksick Family Trust; Roger and Helen Hall; Robert and Patricia Patterson; Dorothy L. Minker; and Mary L. Taylor.
