UNLV is close to hiring a baseball coach to replace Rod Soesbe, who was fired on May 21.
"We're still interviewing candidates," UNLV associate athletic director Jerry Koloskie said. "We have one more to bring in this week, then we'll make our final recommendations to (athletic director) Charlie Cavagnaro.
"He's going to make the final decision. As soon as the interview process is over, we'll have a decision pretty quickly."
The six coaches believed to be finalists for the job are San Francisco head coach Nino Giarratano, UCLA assistant Vince Beringhele, Tulane assistant Jim Scholssnagle, LSU assistant Dan Canevari, Silverado High School coach Brian Whitaker and former Green Valley and Valley coach Rodger Fairless.
