Savvy wine buy: ‘99 Vireton Archery Summit
Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001 | 9:07 a.m.
Archery Summit is a hot winery at the moment, because its '98 Pinot Noir, the varietal Oregon is most famous for, was awarded the No. 33 spot on this year's Wine Spectator Top 100 List. But Oregon's cool weather is ideal for growing Pinot Gris, which is the basis for this fruity, full flavored white wine. Vireton is actually a blend; 76 percent Pinot Gris, 14 percent Chardonnay and 10 percent Pinot Blanc. It's a sophisticated example of just how talented winemaker Gary Andrus really is, and look for the price to jump in the near future.
Available at Lee's Discount Liquors, $26.99, and Las Vegas Wine Co., $26.99.
