Letter: Abortion foes have morality on their side
Friday, Jan. 26, 2001 | 9:30 a.m.
Does it bother you that every 21 seconds a baby is killed by abortion? Does it bother you that more than 95 percent of abortions are used as a means of birth control? Does is bother you enough to do something about it? Prompted to action by the principles of freedom, America has repeatedly fought for those who don't have the means to fight for themselves. For those who have been denied a voice, we have fought so that they may speak.
We fought to give the slaves freedom. We died to give the Jews a right to life. We argued to give women the right to vote, but we don't give the unborn a right to live.
Every person whose rights we fight for began as a tiny fetus in their mother's womb. Our country cries, "Let freedom ring." America was built on the standards of morality, justice, equality and freedom. Since freedom cannot be exercised when it is in direct disagreement with the other pillars -- morality, justice and equality -- women should not have the "freedom" to choose whether or not a living human being should be able to continue life.
Americans are surrounded by the voices of those who seek to destroy the value of human life by misusing words like "freedom" and "choice." The best way to overcome a lie is to tell the truth. The voice of opposition is strong, but we have truth and morality on our side. Speak up!
