LV airline traffic increases compared to weak month in ‘99

McCarran International Airport said it served 2.96 million passengers in December, up 15.1 percent from December 1999.

The percentage increase was probably inflated by weak numbers in December 1999, when many people stayed home to celebrate the end of the millennium or because of fears of "Y2K" bugs.

Southwest Airlines, the No. 1 airline in Las Vegas, served 883,467 people in December 2000, up 17.4 percent. No. 2 America West was up 51.9 percent while United fell 8.5 percent, Delta was up 3.8 percent and National was up 94.2 percent.

McCarran said that for all of 2000, it served 36.87 million people, up 9.3 percent from 1999.
