Letter: Compassion? Don’t bet on it from president
Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001 | 9:55 a.m.
An Associated Press article by Laura King stated that around the world nations are wary of President Bush.
They view it from the perspective of his lack of experience in foreign affairs, and their concern is easily justified. But I do not feel the American people are leery enough of the intent of this man. While he campaigned under the false pretenses of being a "compassionate conservative," in truth he is a hard "right-winger," to say the least. His Cabinet appointments speak volumes.
It should be obvious that he is going to try to turn the bent of the nation toward the extreme programs of the "right" by slashing years of change to the center by past administrations. Wealth and greed will win out under his administration and the poor, the middle class and those who need help to survive will be the losers.
Sir George W. (in spite of his promises) will not save Medicare and Social Security, but will slay these dragons of the left like St. George slew the dragon of England.
George W. will not have to pay for his lies -- about how he will save Medicare and Social Security -- as Bill Clinton had to pay for his lies about sex.
