Ads explain electric issues

Nevada Power Co. has launched a $1.3 million advertising campaign to explain why electricity bills have been climbing.
The company, which has received a series of rate increases from the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada that have pushed bills up more than 12 percent since July, blames increased fuel costs for the increases.
The campaign includes print and television advertising, an updated Internet site, brochures, bill inserts and a series of speakers bureau presentations on price increases and what customers can do to manage their power bills.
The company said it established the campaign because a survey conducted by Penn, Schoen & Berland Associates Inc., said customers wanted to hear directly from the company about what is behind the higher rates.
Nevada Power serves about 590,000 electric customers in Southern Nevada.
