Brother-in-law charged in killing
A man shot to death Tuesday in a southeast Las Vegas home was identified as 31-year-old Marc Lohr.
Lohr was slain about 2 p.m. Tuesday in a house in the 4200 block of Hazelcrest Drive near Flamingo and Sandhill roads. Lohr's 18-year-old brother-in-law, Jason Weber, surrendered at the scene and was charged with murder.
There was apparently "bad blood" between Weber and other members of his family and Lohr. They apparently didn't approve of the marriage to Lohr, Metro Police said.
Victim ID'd as woman, 41
A woman found stabbed to death in an apartment complex parking lot was identified as 41-year-old Alice P. Cunningham.
Cunningham was found around midnight Thursday in the parking lot in the 500 block of North Lamb Boulevard near Bonanza Road. Her boyfriend, 28-year-old Michael Marsillett, was charged with murder in connection with her slaying.
Billions in refunds remain for 1997
If you failed to file a tax return for 1997 and would have received a refund, it's not too late to get that money, the Internal Revenue says, but the deadline is fast approaching.
The IRS estimates that 1.6 million people failed to file returns for 1997 and risk losing about $2.4 billion if they don't get those late returns in by April 16. About 17,000 Nevadans who did not file that year risk losing an estimated $27 million in returns.
Federal law allows a three-year window for taxpayers to claim past refunds.
The IRS estimates that about half the unclaimed returns would be less than $464. Still others, the IRS said, may not have had any tax withheld but are eligible for refunds via Earned Income Tax Credit.
Tax forms are available at the IRS website (www.irs.gov) or by calling (800) TAX-FORM.
