Joe Delaney remembers 1978: Carlin at the Aladdin
Friday, Jan. 19, 2001 | 9:23 a.m.
It was the "way out humor of George Carlin, After Hours" at the Aladdin in 1978. It was in the 1960s, after being "fired" from the Frontier, that he put away his tux and Jonathan Winters-inspired characters and went on the college circuit. In the 1970s he was the midnight attraction at the Sahara, joining Buddy Hackett and Flip Wilson in this rotation. During the 1980s his annual HBO specials earned Emmy Awards, and his albums earned a number of Grammys. He spent most of the 1990s at Bally's, again doing late shows. He moved to the MGM Grand this year where he started his new contract on Wednesday.
