Sun readers spread plenty of good cheer and glad tidings during the past holiday season, contributing a record sum toward the purchase of promotional items during the third Las Vegas Sun Holiday Auction.
A check for $1,300 will be presented to the Shade Tree Shelter.
A total of 195 items -- promotional gifts and other materials the Sun and its reporters collect throughout the year but do not keep for ethical reasons -- were available for bid.
A "Campbell's Soup Can" oil painting on canvas by Steve Kaufman brought in $126, breaking the single-item record of $60 for a Muhammad Ali keepsake ornament in 1999. Other popular items in this year's auction included Las Vegas Bowl gear, men's and women's Citizen watches and "Bubba Teeth."
But there's good news for Steve Lippia fans who missed out on this year's auction. About a dozen CDs featuring the Sinatra-styled singer's latest work will be held over for next year's auction.
The Sun would like to thank all who participated in this year's auction and hopes everybody is enjoying their stocking stuffers.
