Male Athlete of the Week: DEREK FREEMAN
School: Foothill
Class: Senior
Sport: Basketball
Last week: Freeman, a starting guard, scored in double figures in three games to lead the Falcons to victories over Basic, Vo-Tech and Cimarron-Memorial. The 6-0 senior tallied 13 points in a 54-33 win over the Wolves on Wednesday, notched 22 points in a 66-49 win over the Road Runners on Friday and netted 13 points in a 70-48 nonleague win over the Spartans on Saturday. Freeman also helped shut down Cimarron's Jason Petrimoulx, holding the Spartans' leading scorer to four second-half points after an 18-point first half. "Derek started the season in a slump, and last week he got out of his slump," Foothill coach Kevin Soares said. "I call him a scorer. He knows how to put the ball in the basket, whether it's outside or going to the basket."

"Everybody is running the floor well with Don-netta, and she's been really consistent," Palo Verde coach Gina Piccolo said.
