Police investigating double killing near Truckee

A man calling 911 on a cellular phone told a dispatcher for the California Highway Patrol in Truckee early Wednesday that he had just shot a woman, Placer County Sheriff Edward Bonner said.
The man said in the call about 5:48 a.m. he was stuck in the snow near I-80 somewhere west of the town of Truckee, located 15 miles northwest of Lake Tahoe.
Sheriff's deputies and patrolmen launched ground and aerial searches for the snowbound truck and a utility worker spotted the truck about 9:45 a.m. in a snowdrift about 15 miles west of Truckee off Drum Forebay Road.
The dead man and woman found in the truck appear to have been shot to death, Placer County Sheriff's Lt. Rick Armstrong said.
"Right now, we are treating it like a murder-suicide," Armstrong said. He said the victims had not been identified.
