Victim's car found by police

Metro Police on Tuesday found the car stolen from a woman killed during an apparent home invasion robbery.

The Nissan Pathfinder was found in the area of Craig Road near Interstate 15, but no suspects have been identified or arrested in connection with the slaying of 27-year-old Tzatzi Sanchez in her home on Hayward Avenue near Nellis Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue Monday.

Two men apparently broke into the house about 9 a.m., hit one male roommate on the head with a bottle and stuck a gun in the face of a second male roommate. The robbers then tied up the two men. Sanchez was in another room and was also tied up, Lt. Wayne Petersen of Metro's homicide unit said.

The male roommates were able to free themselves and discovered Sanchez had been killed and her car was missing, police said.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call Metro Police at 229-3521 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.

Council delays handbill discussion

The Henderson City Council Tuesday put off until Feb. 6 discussion of a proposed change to a handbill ordinance.

If approved, the changes would eliminate the $50 annual fee charged to businesses that distribute commercial fliers.

Businesses also would be permitted to distribute advertisements for pizza sales and other similar fliers without printing the author's name on the materials.

Businesses will still be required to register with City Hall to help ensure safety of canvassed neighborhoods.

The city attorney's office said the changes will streamline paperwork and keep the city abreast of developments in constitutional law.

Bulldozer cuts LV pipeline

A broken natural gas line in the northwest part of the valley turned into a headache for residents Tuesday afternoon.

A bulldozer hit the gas line and broke it at a construction site near the far west end of Cheyenne Avenue where it will eventually connect with the Las Vegas Beltway.

The accident occurred about 1:30 p.m., causing the Las Vegas Fire Department and Metro Police to close surrounding blocks, while the line was repaired by Southwest Gas workers.

The line was repaired and the roads were reopened about 2:30 p.m.

Advocacy program to be started

A new workers' rights advocacy program is scheduled to open Thursday morning at a ceremony at a local church.

The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10:15 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 2100 S. Maryland Parkway, and is sponsored by the Las Vegas Interfaith Council for Worker Justice.
