Letter: Leave nuke trash at home

Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001 | 9:52 a.m.

How naive of Darby, who stated we should stop worrying about nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain. He added that the top issues to the public (according to him) are actually things like education, roads, crime, water, etc., and Yucca Mountain has always been way down on the list.

Doesn't he realize if nuclear waste does indeed come to Yucca Mountain, all his so-called "top issues" may not matter? One nuclear accident or mistake and nothing will matter.

Once again, I suggest that nuclear waste be stored where it was generated. Please don't transport it across country to Yucca Mountain or anywhere else. Accidents happen. Leave it where it is. Why should Nevada be a trash dump for every other state?

Also, Mary Manning, keep those Yucca Mountain articles coming. We need to be aware what's happening. Pulling the blankets over our heads, as suggested by some, will not benefit anyone.
