Letter: Election will live in infamy

Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001 | 9:53 a.m.

I could very well understand this, since the Democratic areas are where all the "cheating" went on. The Republican district votes were nice and clean.

I don't know how anyone can still believe that George W. Bush won this election. If he thought he did, ask yourself why he fought so hard to keep the votes from being recounted.

If you believe that there already was a recount, you may remember that when Miami-Dade ballots were being recounted, a group of thugs, hired by the Bushes, came in and disrupted the recount.

The people in Palm Beach County stayed up for three days recounting, only to be told by Katherine Harris that they were two hours late.

I don't know why all the American people don't scream against this outrage. This is exactly how ex-dictator Ferdinand Marcos was elected in the Philippines.

Most people don't believe that Bush can do much damage in four years. Look at the Cabinet he's installing: anti-environmentalists; John Ashcroft, who is anti-everything; and a supervisor of schools whose school system is 46th in the nation.

In case you think this is a case of sour grapes, I was a registered Republican before this election.

As President Franklin D. Roosevelt said, this will be "a date that will live in infamy."
