Las Vegas executive favorite for Reno tourism job
Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001 | 6:11 a.m.
Jeff Beckelman, vice president of sales and marketing for the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino and Sands Expo Center, was the only one of five candidates for RSCVA president and chief executive officer recommended by each RSCVA board member to advance to the final review process, the Reno Gazette-Journal reported Wednesday.
He also was the only choice of three panels of community and business leaders who participated in candidate interviews Monday and Tuesday.
The RSCVA board deadlocked 5-5 on Steve Hammond, president and CEO of the Sacramento Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Stephen Richer, executive director of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Convention and Visitors Bureau in Gulfport as the second choice to advance to final reviews.
Beckelman, 54, will face psychological tests and financial background checks. If he emerges from final testing with no problems, it's possible that RSCVA's board could vote to enter negotiations with him without interviewing other candidates.
