Medicare information training scheduled

The Division for Aging Services' Medicare State Health Insurance Advisory program, better known as "SHIP," will be conducting a free training class for volunteers to assist seniors and other Medicare beneficiaries with understanding the complicated Medicare system changes for 2001.

The training will be held 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Tuesday and Jan. 24 at the Howard Cannon Senior Center, 340 N. 11th St.

Learn how to make entrees, desserts

Participants can learn about the health benefits of tofu in a cooking demonstration workshop 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Drive, Henderson.

The instructor will demonstrate a number of ways to prepare tofu, including entrees and desserts. Discussion will also include proper storage methods. For additional information, call 450-5885.

UBS will host several locations

United Blood Services, 6930 W. Charleston Blvd., has scheduled blood drives at these locations:

Today: until 5 p.m. at St. Rose Dominican Hospital Siena Campus, 3001 St. Rose Parkway.

Thursday: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Buffalo Bills, Whiskey Pete's and Primm Valley hotel, all in Primm.

Friday: 2-7 p.m. at Aggie Roberts Elementary School, 227 Charter Oak St.

Saturday: 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at Molasky Junior High School, 7801 W. Gilmore Ave.

Monday: 5-9 p.m. in LDS University Institute of Religion, 1095 University Road.

Free seminar set on pruning, planting

The Las Vegas Valley Rose Society will present a free seminar on the proper pruning, feeding and planting of roses 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday at St. Rose Dominican Hospital Siena Campus Healing Garden, 3001 St. Rose Parkway.

Las Vegas Valley Rose Society board members Dick Jackson and John Vinson will lead the seminar, which will give month-by-month instructions of how to grow roses in Las Vegas.

The Women's League of Temple Beth Sholom

will host an adventure into the "World of Creative Living" with a focus on Judaic art at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at 8516 W. Lake Mead Blvd. The program will include a light brunch. Cost is $15 in advance or $20 at the door. To RSVP, call Kim at 646-5401.
