Letter: Make ‘em pay for dumping nuke waste here
Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001 | 9:48 a.m.
1) Have every state bringing in nuclear waste to Nevada levied the highest amount possible in taxes to the state.
2) Pay all medical bills for all Nevadans within a 200-mile radius of Yucca Mountain who have resided in the state for five years prior to the congressional approval.
3) Give each of these residents a minimum of $10,000 a year.
This would mean that each state dumping here would be liable for medical coverage as well as monetary income. A lot of us could quit our jobs and live on the income.
Also, all employees who handle radioactive materials brought in should be paid a minimum hourly wage of $500.
Otherwise, dump it in their own state.
