Park to speak at Saturday meeting
Versatile writer and composer Gordon Park will speak at the seventh International Summit of North American Nature Photography Association 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Rio hotel.
Admission is $25 for the public and $15 for students and includes admission to the trade show exhibit hall 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Henderson recreation will host workshop
The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring an SAT math preparation workshop 9 a.m. to noon Saturday and Jan. 27 at the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Drive.
The workshop will include sample problems and tactics to use on the college entrance exam. Cost is $30 per student. For more information, call 450-5885.
SCORE will help with start-up
The Las Vegas chapter of the Service Corps of Retired Executives will host a workshop "How to Really Start Your Own Business" 9 a.m. Thursday at the Foley Federal Building, 300 Las Vegas Blvd. South, Suite 1100.
Cost is $45 and includes a 292-page reference manual and workbook. For more information, call 388-6104.
Theaters part of campaign
Variety of Southern Nevada on Friday kicked off its 2001 National Gold Heart Campaign.
Until Feb. 18 the group will be collecting donations at Century, Regal and United Artist theaters and Nevada Commerce to support Variety, which serves more than 17,500 children through its various programs.

Masons to host '60s-'70s event
The Square and Compass Club of Jodie Cannon, Senior Lodge No. 3, F&AM of Nevada will host its '60s and '70s Costume Ball of the Century 7 p.m. Saturday at the Jasmine Gardens, 2550 Duneville St., near Jones Boulevard and Sahara Avenue.
Cost is $20 and will support scholarships, food baskets and emergency suplies for those in need in the Masonic community. For more information, call 399-1231.
Dental hygiene program creator Nelson leaves
Barbara Nelson, dean and founding director of the dental hygiene program at the Community College of Southern Nevada, retired Dec. 31, after 17 years in the program and 23 years with the school.
The dental hygiene program was the first of its kind in Nevada. Nelson also developed CCSN's high school-college dual credit program.
Nelson, a Michigan native, earned a master's of science degree from UNLV in post-secondary and vocational education. She is also a certified dental hygienist.
She plans to spend her retirement touring the country with her husband.
Immunizations
Health District immunization clinics are open each week in Southern Nevada. Immunizations are provided without charge to children and young adults under the age of 21 in any of three public health centers and 15 satellite clinics. These clinics will be open Wednesday through January 23:
District Health Center: 625 Shadow Lane, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Henderson Public Health Center: 129 W. Lake Mead Drive, Building A, Suite 10, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
East Las Vegas Public Health Center: 560 N. Nellis Blvd. at Stewart Avenue, Suite E12 8a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
EOB North Las Vegas WIC Clinic: 5A Tonopah, 9 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. Wednesday.
Family to Family: 1313 E. Karen Ave. at Maryland Parkway, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday.
Cheyenne WIC Clinic: 3266 Las Vegas Blvd. North, Suite 12, (Centers for Healthy Families), 9 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. Friday.
Green Valley Library Clinic: 2797 N. Green Valley Parkway, 9 a.m.-noon and 1-3:30 p.m. Friday.
Family to Family: 2125-C E. Lake Mead Blvd. at College Park Plaza, 12:30-3:30 p.m. Friday.
Molasky Junior High School: 7801 W. Gilmore Ave., 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.
Fremont Medical Center: 4880 S. Wynn Road at Tropicana Avenue, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. Immunizations free to anyone who walks in.
Northeast WIC Clinic: 2404 E. Stewart Ave., 9 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23.
Rainbow Library Clinic: 3150 N. Buffalo Drive, 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23.
