Coast Resorts Inc. announced Tuesday a $100 million expansion of the Orleans hotel-casino in Las Vegas.
The project includes a 9,000-seat special-events arena for rodeos, boxing and concerts, a 620-room hotel tower, a 2,600-car parking garage, six more movie theaters, two restaurants, an Irish pub and more casino space.
The project at the Tropicana Road property is expected to be paid for primarily out of cash flow, and will be completed in phases through the end of 2002, said Coast.
Coast is the owner of the new Suncoast casino in Summerlin as well as the established off-Strip Gold Coast hotel-casino and the Barbary Coast on the Las Vegas Strip.
Harlan Braaten, president and chief operating officer of Coast Resorts, said: "The Orleans has been a tremendous success for us. Its increasing popularity with both locals and tourists makes this expansion the next logical step."
The additional hotel rooms will bring the total of rooms and suites to 1,460 at The Orleans, which Coast said has maintained an average occupancy rate of 95 percent the past two years.
