DETROIT -- Gamblers spent $743 million in Michigan's three temporary casinos last year, pumping $73.6 million in taxes into the city of Detroit and $60.2 million into state coffers.
Adjusted gross revenues for Greektown, MGM Grand Detroit and MotorCity were released Wednesday by the Michigan Gaming Control Board. The total includes money spent on food, beverages, souvenirs and gambling.
When Greektown Casino opened Nov. 10, casino visitors poured $6 million more into Detroit's gaming market.
MGM Grand and MotorCity revenues took slight dips in December from the Greektown opening, but MGM remained the leader in revenue, with MotorCity ranking second and Greektown third for the holiday month.
Daily average revenue at MGM Grand Detroit was $945,307 in December, from $1 million reported the previous December.
MGM Grand Detroit officials told Detroit Free Press for a report today that they expected a decline in volume due to Greektown's opening.
MGM pulled in $396.8 million in revenues for the year. December revenue was $29.3 million.
