Joe Delaney remembers 1977: Vinton at the Riviera
Friday, Jan. 12, 2001 | 9:15 a.m.
Bobby Vinton had a succession of No. 1 hits in the 1960s and a mega-hit in the 1970s with "Melody of Love" with part of the lyric in Polish, earning him the show business title, the "Polish Prince," and this 1977 co-headline date at the Riviera. He continued to headline here in the 1980s when he built his own theater in Branson, Mo. He still comes to Las Vegas for an occasional weekend date, usually at the Riviera. David Brenner joined with Joan Rivers later at the Riviera for one of the first successful all-comedy shows in a main showroom. Brenner is presently enjoying a successful run at the Golden Nugget that has been extended indefinitely.
