Manny Cortez, president of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, got a 10 percent raise on Tuesday, plus a 6 percent bonus making him one of the best-paid officials in the state. His total pay including salary and raise is $227,000.
Cortez makes more than Clark County Schools Superintendent Carlos Garcia, University of Nevada, Las Vegas President Carol Harter, and former UNLV basketball coach Bill Bayno.
The tourism chief's salary is almost twice Gov. Kenny Guinn's $117,000 and more than four times Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman's $51,150.
The convention authority board said Cortez is doing a good job attracting tourists to fill Las Vegas' 123,000 hotel rooms.
It said his salary is competitive with pay for visitor board chiefs around the nation.
