Savvy wine buy: ‘99 Sancerre La Crele
Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001 | 8:21 a.m.
This stunningly delicious, Loire Valley white wine offers a price-wise alternative to Chardonnay, and also one to anybody tired of wines flavored with new oak. The producers have been making this wine for nearly 300 years. They rely upon 100 percent stainless steel fermentation and the mineral rich Sauvignon Blanc grape to produce their wine from vines that are between 30 and 40 years old. This Sancerre has a floral nose, traces of apple and pear on the palate and a rich, long finish.
Available at Marche Bacchus, $18.99.
