Letter: Gore lost election all on his own
Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001 | 9:44 a.m.
The most important fact is that the state of Florida had election rules in place before the election. Had those rules, such as they were, been followed, we may be looking to inaugurate Al Gore rather than George W. Bush. Instead of a cynical attempt by the Democrats to challenge voting in only Democrat-heavy counties and demand recounts there only, to have included all counties would have been proper and not subject to court review.
And Gore very well may have come out ahead in such a recount. It was the Democrats, not the courts, nor the Republicans, who wasted time and effort trying to change the rules, letting the clock run out, and who made the only attempt out there to steal the election.
Then, when the Supreme Court properly found that such selective vote mining violated the equal protection laws, these malcontents blame the court as too political.
Gore lost on his own. Get over it.
