Washoe County School District to receive high-tech polling equipment

Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001 | 4:24 a.m.

Wells Fargo Nevada is donating $91,000 to the district to purchase a computerized polling system that will be used to gather public input on issues pending before the school board.

Voice Poll, an Everett, Wash., company, will provide, install and train district staff on the system.

Part of the technology involves a computer-enhanced telephone system that will allow people to call a number to voice their opinions on specific questions.

The system also includes 50, hand-held transmitters linked to a computer and projector. Those devices will be used at meetings and hearings to judge public sentiments on various school topics, officials said.

The system should be up and running by February.
