Washington State Gambling Commission employee admits stealing money, gambling it away
Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001 | 12:41 p.m.
The 36-year-old woman admitted stealing $70,000 from the commission between August and December, KIRO-TV reported Friday.
"The irony that someone who works for the Gambling Commission is involved in an activity wherein it's alleged that funds have been taken and then it's also alleged that the funds were used for gambling is extremely sad," said Robert Berg of the commission.
The unidentified employee, who had worked for the commission for more than 10 years, wrote six checks ranging from $7,000 to $15,000, KIRO reported.
The thefts were discovered when a bank called the commission to verify the checks, said Bev Reinhold of the Lacey Police Department.
The woman resigned from her job last month, KIRO said.
