Letter: NDOT ignores public’s wishes
Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001 | 9:53 a.m.
The NDOT public information meeting on June 22 solicited comments from affected homeowners. In response to that, we and a number of our neighbors indicated that we did not want a sound wall. We are not opposed to the widening of the highway; we are opposed only to the installation of a sound wall.
The NDOT asked for public comment, and its published documents indicate that it considers public comment in its plans. We had hoped, therefore, that the NDOT would pay attention to the comments from this neighborhood and not install a sound wall at the highway end of our street.
However, the NDOT's revised plan, exhibited at its public information meeting on Nov. 29, showed that a sound wall at our street is still in the plans. It appears that the NDOT is not paying attention to the public comments that were solicited.
We are concerned that the NDOT is going to do what it is going to do, regardless of the desires of affected homeowners -- desires that have no impact on the primary task of widening the highway.
