Hotel sues contractor over lien

Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001 | 10:02 a.m.

The Moulin Rouge Hotel & Casino and its parent company, CBC Financial Corp., sued a contractor, alleging it improperly filed a lien against the hotel-casino for work they claim was never done on the property on Bonanza Road in Las Vegas.

The casino is closed for renovation, but the 111-room hotel remains open.

The plaintiffs sued Brendyl Electric in Clark County District Court after the contractor filed a small claims complaint against them on Sep. 18 to recover $915 in alleged unpaid fees for work it said it performed on the Moulin Rouge. The plaintiffs seek an order invalidating the lien.

The plaintiffs' suit, which alleged Brendyl failed to complete electrical repairs on a separate property at 750 Fremont Street after allegedly receiving a $33,000 payment, said they had to hire another contractor to complete the Fremont Street repairs because Brendyl allegedly failed to obtain the necessary electrical permits.

Brendyl Electric declined comment.
