High court rules against bail bond companies

The bail bond firms, led by Blackjack Bonding, claimed the municipal court lacked legal authority to levy the fees between 1991 and 1997. The Las Vegas Municipal Court imposed a $40 filing fee for bail bonds starting in 1991.
While specific legislative authorization for the fees didn't exist until 1997, the Supreme Court said the Nevada Constitution and the law "indicate that the municipal courts have the inherent power to charge and collect reasonable fees."
