Woman parachutes from skyscraper

Monday, Jan. 1, 2001 | 10:04 a.m.

Brenda McGlynn, 36, was among 15 parachutists from the United States, Europe and Asia who greeted the new year by leaping from the world's tallest skyscrapers.

She and the others leaped from Malaysia's Petronas Twin towers, each 1,483 feet tall, about 15 seconds before midnight. They floated to earth one by one and touched down on Jan. 1.

McGlynn, the only woman on the team, described the leap over the Southeast Asian city of Kuala Lampur as the "most exciting time of my life.

"I'm doing this for the women of the world to encourge them to pursue and face their limits," she said.

The team claimed to have smashed the record for the most skydivers jumping off a building.
