Karen Beverly, 50, of Corona, won the Wheel of Fortune MegaJackpot at the Edgewater Casino in Laughlin, Nev.
Apparently a friend gave her some money and told her to play the $2 machine, said spokeswoman Connie Fox of International Game Technology, which runs the statewide progressive game. She lost $52 before hitting the jackpot.
Beverly, who owns a pool and spa company, will receive the money in 20 annual installments unless she opts to take a lump sum payment, which amounts to between 50 and 60 percent of the jackpot, Fox said. She did not know which option Beverly would choose.
Laughlin, a resort town on the Colorado River, is 80 miles south of Las Vegas.
