Fund-raiser to help Special Olympics
The third annual "Cops and Lobsters" fund-raiser for Special Olympics will begin with officers taking customer orders 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and then from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Red Lobster, 200 S. Decatur Blvd.
Members of the community are encouraged to dine at the restaurant to show their support for the Special Olympics. For more information, call Capt. Dan Barry at 229-5505.
Card tournament planned Saturday
A "Go Fish" card game tournament is being offered for youth (ages 6-12) 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Drive, Henderson.
The free event is part of the Henderson Parks and Recreation Department's "Let the Games Begin" program, which consists of a monthly game tournament. Certificates will be awarded to all participants. For more information, call 450-5885.
Life-saving tactics will be taught
An American Association HeartSaver CPR workshop is being offered 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road.
Participation is $12 per person (ages 13 or more).
Participants will be taught how to provide emergency care for choking victims as well as infant, child and adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The instructor will also discuss the risk factors for heart disease. For more information or to register, call 565-2880.
Learn about shrink art
Two hands-on craft workshops for youth (ages 6 and up) are being offered at the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Drive, Henderson.
A shrink art workshop will be held 10 a.m.-noon and a greeting card-making workshop will be 1-3 p.m. Saturday. Participation in either workshop is $15.
The workshops are sponsored by the Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. For more information or to register, call 450-5885.
Dos Escuelas to open
The grand opening of Dos Escuelas Park will take place 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday adjacent to Vanderburg Elementary School in Henderson.
Mayor Jim Gibson and Greg Jones, vice president of commercial operations for American Nevada Corp., developer of the park, will speak at the grand opening ceremony. For more information, call 565-4264.
