MWC rules Rebels’ Kambala can play
Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001 | 11:13 a.m.
Kaspars Kambala's final week as a UNLV basketball player will not be marred by a suspension, the Mountain West determined Monday.
The conference decided that the Rebels' center is not subject to further discipline for swinging at San Diego State center Marcelo Correa in a 83-66 loss Saturday night.
MWC commissioner Craig Thompson, who was watching the game on television, reviewed the case and imposed no penalties.
With 7:17 left in the game, Kambala landed an open-handed slap to the back of Correa's head after losing a battle for a rebound. A flagrant foul was called and Kambala was ejected, but it wasn't for fighting.
Kambala will be in uniform for Thursday's home game against Colorado State, and the Rebels will close their season Saturday night against Wyoming.
