Letter: Extinguishers can douse all sorts of fires
Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001 | 9:06 a.m.
There is a way to stop violent people in their tracks without using deadly force.
In 1967 I was on my way to Richmond, Va., when I stopped for lunch. A highway patrolman and a truck driver were sitting at a table next to me. The patrolman was taking a statement from the truck driver regarding an attempted hijacking.
The truck driver had stopped to check his brakes when he was accosted by four men intent on taking his truck. The truck driver pulled a dry fire extinguisher out of his jacket pocket and after giving each one a good dose, used the extinguisher to pacify them. They were still out when the patrolman arrived.
Ladies, these extinguishers put out all kind of fires.
I did not write to the sheriff, because he would never see it. I believe that anytime an individual takes the time to write the sheriff's department a reply should be rendered.
