Planning coalition weighs in on crisis

The Southern Nevada Regional Planning Coalition added its voice to the chorus of concern over the electricity crisis, asking the state to delay the sale of private power plants in Nevada "until regional power problems have stabilized."
The resolution, which will go to the Legislature, also asks the state to delay electric deregulation. The resolution also lends support to the Southern Nevada Water Authority, which has suggested it could become a power provider in the region.
Dario Herrera, chairman of both the coalition and the Clark County Commission, asked for two additional points in the resolution: One encourages local governments to help "fast-track" new power plants, and the second asks that new power plants be required to sell power to Nevada before selling to other states.
