April 19: Reagan denounces attack
Story: President Reagan denounced "the vicious terrorist bombing" of the American Embassy in Beirut Monday as "a cowardly act." He vowed that the United States would not be deterred from its efforts to bring about peace in the Middle East and the withdrawal of foreign troops from Lebanon.
May 10: Thousands march on Strip
Story: A confrontation between 3,000 Las Vegas union marchers and Metro Police on the Strip ended peacefully Monday when the crowd was turned back by officers who threatened arrests for blocking traffic in front of Caesars Palace.
June 19: Challenger Orbits flawlessly
Story: The shuttle Challenger flawlessly rocketed Sally Ride into history Saturday as the first American woman in space -- a triumph in a "quiet revolution" for women worldwide.
Sept. 19: Miss America '84 sets herself apart
Story: Vanessa Williams, who "made some waves" by becoming the first black woman to win the Miss America title, stirred the waters even more Sunday by saying she favors legalized abortion.
Oct. 31: 'Run Jesse' runs
