Letter: Let people decide for themselves on Bush’s tax cut
Friday, Feb. 23, 2001 | 10:23 a.m.
I would like to urge Sen. Harry Reid -- and all of his liberal friends who are so afraid of President Bush's tax cut -- to have the IRS create a special box on form 1040. Checking this box would enable people who want to keep the present tax rate to continue paying at the higher rate.
Who knows? This system could ease the conscience of those opposed to the tax cut, while people like me -- who are overtaxed -- can take advantage of the new lower Bush tax cut.
