Gaming Commission approves settlement

CARSON CITY -- The state Gaming Commission on Thursday accepted a settlement that calls for a $100,000 fine against the Rio Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas for violating accounting regulations.
Commissioner Augie Gurrola of Las Vegas suggested this violation would not have occurred if there was a proper training program in place. But a spokesman for Harrah's Entertainment Inc. of Las Vegas, which owns the Rio, said the employee involved in the violation had completed training only two weeks prior to the incident.
Under the settlement, the Rio must hire an consultant within 30 days to examine its cash transaction system. And the recommendations of the consultant must be submitted to the state Gaming Control Board.
In May 2000, the Control Board filed a complaint that alleged an undercover agent deposited money with a cage employee at the Rio. When he later retrieved the cash, he was given different bills, which is against regulations. And the complaint said there were bookkeeping discrepancies in the transaction.
