CARSON CITY -- A bill introduced Wednesday in the Assembly would add $5 million to the state's low-income energy assistance program.
Assembly Bill 209, sponsored by Bonnie Parnell, D-Carson City, would appropriate $5 million from the state's Welfare Division to broaden the eligibility for assistance to include people whose income in any quarter is 200 percent less than the federally designated level signifying poverty.
The bill's appropriation is in addition to a $5 million appropriation earmarked in Gov. Kenny Guinn's proposed budget for the same purpose.
The Assembly's Ways and Means Committee will hold a hearing on the bill.
