Savvy wine buy: ‘99 De Loach Chardonnay
Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001 | 9:09 a.m.
This nicely priced Chardonnay is produced from hand harvested grapes, and undergoes a 50-50 fermentation; 50 percent of the crush in 60-gallon French oak barrels, and the other 50 percent in stainless steel. The result is a wine that is more cream than oak in the finish, yet reasonably complex, and an excellent choice for seafood. The wine has rich, ripe fruit and firm acidity, and flavors such as pear, apple and a touch of vanilla are present. Drink now, or in the next year or two.
Available at Trader Joe's, $8.99, and Costco, $8.99.
