Letter: Good reasons for leaving Las Vegas
Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001 | 9:36 a.m.
As usual, another great column from Susan Snyder. Regarding her Feb. 18 commentary on why people are leaving Las Vegas, please allow me to give you good reasons why I feel the departures occur:
l. Terrible public transportation. Many seniors live here. Many no longer drive! The bus schedules and the availability of the buses are far from convenient. (I am from the Chicago area and well know what decent transportation facilities should be like.)
2. Problems with homeowners associations. As you probably know, these problems made it necessary for state Sen. Mike Schneider to write needed bills, hoping they would improve the situations. But for many ... no help. (We have a considerable number of units being sold because owners get fed up with the dictatorial boards.)
3. Construction defects. As a result of my being an ongoing crusader for numbers 2 and 3 above, I well know of the terrible experiences. However, hardly any needed help comes from our elected officials. They want our votes when they are running for office, but once elected, they offer no help.
