County moves to close LV motel

Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001 | 11:14 a.m.

Clark County sued Tuesday to shut down a 225-room motel at 344 E. Desert Inn Road owned by Blair House Suites Ltd., alleging it is operating without valid business licenses and has defaulted on $319,097 in room taxes and fees.

In a Clark County District Court lawsuit, the county sued Blair House, alleging its continued operation without "a valid transient lodging license and a non-resort hotel/motel license and without payment of room taxes ... would place all other similarly situated businesses at a competitive disadvantage" and "jeopardize the financing of its public services."

Clark County, which said it was entitled to "4 percent of the gross receipts received from sleeping room/space rentals to transient guests by all hotels and motels located within 35 miles of the Las Vegas Convention Center," said it wants to foreclose on the motel to satisfy a lien for $110,282 in unpaid room taxes.

The suit said it also seeks an order to determine the rights and priority of at least six other lienholders against the motel property.

The defendant could not be reached for comment.
