Volunteers needed to give support

Odyssey Hospice Care is seeking volunteers to provide emotional support, companionship, brief caregiver relief, transportation and run errands for patients with a life limiting illness.

Volunteers are also needed for Harbor House and for clerical support in the main office. Free and extensive training is provided. For more information, call Toni Brasted at 693-4904.

Volunteer training courses set all year

Family Home Hospice is offering free volunteer training courses throughout the year, beginning this month.

The course will assist potential volunteers with the resources and encouragement needed to provide emotional and other practical support to the hospice patient and his/her caregivers.

Volunteers are asked to provide four to six hours a week. For further information or to register, call Nancy Stroud at 671-1193.

UNLV lecture will address Vermont bill

"How Vermont Passed the Nation's First Civil Union Bill," which led to the enactment of the nation's first law sanctioning same-sex unions, will be the topic of the University Forum lectures at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Natural History on the UNLV campus.

Susan M. Murray, a partner in the Vermont law firm of Langrock, Sperry and Wool, will present a detailed account of how a lawsuit challenging the state's denial of marriage certificates to same-sex couples led to the process of getting a civil union bill passed through the Vermont Legislature.

Immunizations

Health District immunization clinics are open each week in and around Las Vegas. Immunizations are free to children and young adults under the age of 21 in any of three public health centers and 35 immunization clinics. The following clinics will be open Wednesday through Feb. 27.
